What our guests say about The Powfoot Hotel

We see many guests arriving at The Powfoot Hotel from all over the world. Here's what they say about us:
Small wedding party
"The staff could not have been more helpful, the food was excellent, so a party of six including a wheelchair user was made to feel very welcome. I would recommend this family-run hotel, the owners cook and wait on tables and take pride in what they do."

Off the beaten track, but well worth a visit
"We have dined in the restaurant several times lately and have never been disappointed. The varied menu with some old favourites and some adventurous new dishes is always a delight. The cooking is faultless and the service swift and efficient. The proprietress plays an active part in the dining room seeing that everything runs smoothly. She is, however, always ready to stop for a few words with customers, which makes the experience a personal one."

A lovely hotel with an amazing view of Solway firth
"We stayed here just for one night. First impressions were WOW, what a view as we arrived, the sun was just setting over the sea. The bedroom was good. It had a lovely view of the Solway. The bed was very comfy and we had a good night's sleep. I loved the idea of the guests lounge area with seating and a balcony with a great view. The breakfast was exceptional and the service was really good. It was nice that everything was served from the kitchen and not buffet, even the orange juice and fruit. "

Dog walk and a morning coffee
"Such a beautiful place, we drove up from Carlisle on a sunny Sunday morning, had an hour on the beach with the dog, great views. Finished off with great cappuccino and shortbread here, we sat outside in the sun which was lovely. Very friendly staff too. We'll definitely be back."

Staff so friendly
"We visited the hotel for lunch recently on recommendation from my cousin. We arrived without booking and staff were so helpful, moving tables to seat 7 of us. Each staff member was welcoming and full of smiles! The food was varied and everyone was pleased with their choice. We had fish, curry, burger and ham. It was served on heated plates so the food stayed hot! It was all a very good standard and portions were generous. We went a walk around Powfoot (fairly small) and returned for coffee and scones! Lovely views across the Solway."

A pleasant discovery on the Solway
"Stayed here for two nights. Wonderful location and views. Dinner and breakfast menus were imaginative, and the food itself was very well cooked and presented. The wine list was reasonably priced. Service was friendly and prompt throughout."

Gem of a place
"Loved this hotel. Had the pleasure of a night's stay here and so wished time allowed for longer, set in a tranquil location, with wonderful views overlooking the Solway Firth. The highlight has to be the food at dinner in Del Amitri Restaurant. The menu offered a superb choice, catering for all tastes and the presentation and food quality was excellent. Breakfast was extremely good too, with a plentiful offering of delicious ways to start the day. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a return visit."

What a find!
"We found a perfect little hideaway! Don't want to tell you about it really because we want always to be able to book a room! Staff were immediately friendly. We had a fabulous room overlooking the Solway Firth and the neighbouring golf course. The room was a very generous size and very comfortable with its own bathroom of course which was also bigger than most you get these days. We also had available to us and the other guests a sitting room with views of the sea with a balcony on the same floor. It was so peaceful and quiet, it was difficult to believe! We had a meal here which had a fascinating menu, all cooked to order and extremely tasty. Bar prices were kind! Breakfast cooked to order also, none of this cook it and leave it under hot lights nonsense! Such friendly folk, we only wished we could stay longer and give the links course next door a go! Damn it, I've told you all about it now, save us a room in August next year please! 10 out of 10."

Welcoming and comfortable
"This was a return visit for us. The Powfoot is a very friendly and welcoming family-run Hotel that I would highly recommend. The views are stunning and if you like to be near the sea, then this is the place to come. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. On both our visits we have had wonderful views out across the water and this time we could also look over the Golf Course that is adjacent to the Hotel. The Food is very good indeed. The restaurant and bar area are always buzzing with people from the local area who have come for the amazing Afternoon Tea or to eat in the Del Amitri Restaurant. The food really is excellent. The Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder was wonderful, as was the Poached Ballotine of Local Wood Pigeon and Black Pudding. Breakfast was also very good. All very fresh and beautifully presented. The staff were all very kind and all seemed very genuinely happy to help. I couldn't recommend this Hotel highly enough, we will certainly be making return visits. Thank you to all at the Powfoot Hotel for a wonderful stay."

Afternoon tea a must
"Recently had Afternoon Tea here, what excellent value for money. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food was plentiful and very tasty and very reasonably priced. We had an excellent view overlooking the Solway Firth and there was no rushing us on. We were there for a good hour and 30 mins. We even got a doggy bag to take home of the food we didn’t manage to eat. Highly recommend a visit."

Anniversary
"Me and my husband went back to the Powfoot for our 10th wedding anniversary on 8th August because we had our wedding reception there. We had a lovely time, the staff were really nice, always there if you need anything, the food was lovely. We had Room 2 with balcony. It was lovely sitting outside bringing back the great memories - we will be back."
